Sprummer Time!

It’s a delayed Sprummer time update! Our Spring/Summer menu has launched officially! We are bringing lots of tropical flavors this go around with lots of focus on rum. We decided to keep things light and fun with a traditional Jamaican Rum Punch we dubbed Montego Bay, or grab a Cure for Pain which is a riff on a Painkiller which is a riff on a Piña Colada. We also have some fun originals like a Banana Peel and Miso Old Fashioned served under smoke and some old favorites are back like the Postcards from Japan and the Camera Obscura. Here’s to some easy living this summer, cheers!

Recent Press for Dry January and a Feature On Our Warm Drinks During this Chilly Time of Year

Hey friendos! We wanted to take a moment to thank Chicago Food Authority, DO 312, various Sober Groups spotlighting our Alcohol Free Cocktail offerings and so much more, we can’t keep up with all the tik tockers, lol!. We appreciate all the media love on our program here and a reminder that you can have elevated alcohol free cocktails in a cute space and still be part of the fun.

And for those of you looking to stay warm with the chilly weather approaching we have a lovely spiced hot chocolate called Xocola’j with rye, byrrh, and toasted sesame coffee tincture. You can also get that sans alcohol as well! Thanks everyone for a busy January, we are feeling all the love. xoxo

Pride Menu 2022!

Homies! It’s time! Our Pride Month 2022 Menu has launched! It’s inspired by queer dive bars and features fun drinks like a Midori Sour and a Blue Hawaiian riff. We thought we would let our hair down and have some fun with ingredients we don’t normally use. We are donating $1 from every drink purchase this year to the National Network of Abortion Funds and Lambda Legal! This will be available for all of June!

Thanks for supporting this queer owned and operated business and a very happy pride to everyone!

Also! If you didn’t catch our little spot on Chicago Today last month talking about our Sprumer menu you can catch your boi Rick here: Chicago Today

Lecture Event: "Not People, but an Ideology": The Struggle for LGBTQ+ Rights in Poland Sunday 2/27 w/ Dr. Michał Wilczewski

***We have a special event announcement!***

What kind of bar hosts a professor for an hour long discussion on the vital topics of the day? We do!

Please join us on Sunday 2/27 @ 7pm where the topic will be:

‘Not People, but an Ideology’: The Struggle for LGBTQ+ Rights in Poland” with Dr. Michał Wilczewski

In recent years, gender and sexuality have become hot topics in Poland. In 2013, for example, “gender” was Poland’s word of the year with the country’s leading bishops claiming that “Gender ‘ideology’ [is] worse than Nazism and Communism.” And even more recently, nearly 1/3 of Poland has declared itself an LGBT-Free Zone. What accounts for this uptick in hostility toward sexual minorities in Poland? Was Poland always so homophobic? How are LGBTQ+ groups fighting back?

Suggested arrival is 6:00pm to find a seat and grab drinks and food. The talk begins at 7pm and wraps around 7:45 with a question and answer component followed by a mix and mingle. $10 suggested donation going to Polish LGBTQ groups at the door !

Space is limited so please RSVP at info@bokehchicago.com

We are thrilled to host this event and with Warsaw as one of our sister cities and our deep history as Chicagoans with Poland we feel it’s important to highlight what is happening on the ground there and we thank Dr. Wilczewski for dedicating his time and efforts by joining us.

Michał Wilczewski received his PhD in Eastern European History from the University of Illinois at Chicago and is currently Visiting Lecturer in the Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures at Northwestern University. He is currently at work on a research project on the history of sexuality and morality in interwar Poland.

We look forward to seeing you all! xoxo
